Admitting Procedures

To arrange admission of a client to one of our residential, partial or intensive outpatient programs, a member of the client's family or the person currently treating the client may contact Adolescent Growth Admissions Office as soon as possible.

The Admissions Office will request that current clinical information about the client's condition be faxed for review before admission arrangements are made. This information will help determine which service is most suitable for the client. It is also essential for the Admissions Office to have clinical information in order to contact the client’s insurance company. The insurance company will then determine the extent to which the client's policy covers the admission.

The client and the client's family are advised to discuss financial details with the Admissions Office in order to clarify the extent and nature of insurance coverage. Depending on the level of insurance coverage, a deposit may be required on the day of admission.

Billing Information

We accept most major insurances. Please call the admissions department to see if we accept your insurance. The Department of Admissions understands that mental and substance abuse health care can be very expensive and accumulating bills can increase stress. We want to provide you with as much information as possible so that you can make an educated choice about where you receive services and how those services will be paid.

The Admissions Office will attempt to verify and explain your insurance benefits. However, it is your responsibility to speak to your insurance company and understand your benefits. We are not able to confirm the accuracy of the benefits quoted to us by your insurance provider. Our explanation or quote of your benefits is NOT a guarantee of bill payment. We are only repeating the benefit information that was provided to us by your insurance company representative. We strongly recommend that you speak directly with the insurance company to make sure that you completely understand your coverage and financial responsibility.

The Admissions Office may attempt to authorize your treatment with your insurance provider prior to your admission. This means that we will provide information to the insurance provider explaining the reason that treatment is needed. Insurance companies have criteria that they use to determine whether a condition meets ‘medical necessity’ for them to pay for treatment. The insurance company may or may not agree to authorize treatment based on the information provided. You and/or your family may believe that a specific type of treatment is needed but the insurance provider may disagree and refuse to authorize payment for treatment. If this happens, you can choose to not use your insurance, but you would be responsible for all bills associated with the unauthorized treatment.

However, even if the insurance company authorizes treatment, authorization of treatment is NOT a guarantee of bill payment.  Even if the insurance company authorizes treatment, they may later determine that there were insufficient benefits for treatment and not pay for the care.

You are financially responsible for whatever your insurance plan does not cover. You are also responsible for any co-pays or deductibles assigned by your insurance plan.

What Happens On Admission Day

Planned admissions usually occur between 8:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

The client and parent’s of the client will sign admission papers and review other documents that will be explained by the admissions coordinator. The client will then enter the population. There, a Floor Leader will welcome them and provide a tour of the facility.

The attending psychiatrist will take medical and psychiatric histories and examine the client. It is important for the client and the client’s family to tell the physician about any medical problems, including allergies to medications. A licensed therapist and the treatment team will do an assessment so that we can design a thorough treatment plan for the client.
